Mount Evans Highway Closes for Season in Two Weeks

September 19, 2011 - TRAFFIC ADVISORY - Central Eastern Colorado/CDOT Region 1 - Will reopen in late spring 2012

CLEAR CREEK COUNTY — On Monday, October 3, the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) will close the lower portion of the Mount Evans Highway (State Highway 5) between Echo Lake and Summit Lake until late spring 2012.

CDOT closed the five-mile segment of the highway from Summit Lake to the top of Mount Evans (14,264 feet) the day after Labor Day, per agreement with the National Forest Service.

Mount Evans Highway is scheduled to reopen the Friday morning before Memorial Day pending weather conditions and snowpack accumulations.
