- Info
Training
From engineers, to maintenance, to environmental staff, CDOT trains their employees on how to successfully do their jobs while reducing the potential to cause stormwater runoff.
Many of the workshops are for CDOT employees only, but other
organizations are welcome to use the presentations. Please contact Rick Willard at
303-757-9343 for additional information.
- Best Management Practices Training Facility (open to the
public)
Open-enrollment training classes are now open for
registration at the CDOT BMP Field Academy. These all day sessions are
hands-on opportunities to install BMPs in the field and evaluate
their performance under simulated precipitation
run-off conditions. These training sessions are being offered
complimentary by CDOT and are open to non-CDOT employees and industry
professionals that have completed the CDOT ECS Certification training.
For more information and registration forms, click here to be taken to Altitude Training's website.
The training facility is located to the west of the CDOT HQ campus
behind Good Times on the southeast corner of Louisiana Avenue and
Colorado Boulevard. You can also contact Rick Willard
(303-757-9343) for more information.
- Erosion Control Supervisor Stormwater Management During
Construction (open to the public)
The class is for Erosion Control Supervisors and others who share
responsibility for the proper installation, maintenance, and inspection
of best
management practices (BMPs) used to control erosion and
sedimentation at construction sites. The program covers stormwater
legal requirements including permitting and
stormwater management plans (SWMPs); erosion and sedimentation at
construction sites; types of BMPs for specific situations to control
erosion and sedimentation; installation of construction site BMPs; and
inspection and maintenance of construction site BMPs. Sign up for the
CDOT Erosion Control Supervisor Stormwater Management During
Construction (CETC 150 Stormwater Management and Erosion Control) class
offered by the Red Rocks Community College. Click here for more
information.
- Erosion Control Supervisor for Maintenance Staff (CDOT employees
only)
This workshop is for CDOT maintenance patrols involved with site
inspections and BMP maintenance. The class offers more in-depth
training specific to maintenance personnel responsible for site
inspections, BMP maintenance, and other permit compliance activities.
Specifics of the course include roles and responsibilities of
maintenance personnel in stormwater management; basics of erosion and
sediment control; BMP selection, installation, and maintenance; and
30-day and site inspection procedures, including documentation
requirements.
- Erosion Control Supervisor for Project Engineers (CDOT employees
only)
This workshop is for CDOT project engineers, construction engineers,
civil engineers, and project managers. The class focuses on the
requirements of stormwater management during construction and is
designed to help personnel with an oversight role identify, evaluate,
and resolve issues related to erosion and sediment control. Specifics
of the course include stormwater regulatory requirements; developing
and implementing stormwater management plans; preparing for and
conducting comprehensive site inspections; and methods for correcting
site deficiencies.
- Conducting Stormwater Compliance Inspections for Construction
Activities (CDOT employees only)
This is a required workshop for CDOT Regional Erosion Control
Assessment Team members. The class is advanced training for inspectors
of BMPs used to control erosion and sedimentation during construction.
The course focuses on preparing for and conducting a comprehensive
inspection of a CDPHE-permitted construction site.
- Permits for the Transportation Professional and National
Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) Training (CDOT employees
only)
This is a required course for CDOT project engineers, design engineers,
construction engineers, civil engineers, regional planning and
environmental managers, project managers, and Region and Headquarters
Environmental Personnel/Specialists. The 4-hour permit class discusses
common permits required for CDOT projects including Stormwater
Construction Permit; Construction Dewatering Wastewater Discharge
Permit; Infiltration; 404; 401; Wildlife take; and SB-40 requirements.
The course emphasis is on general requirements and the application
process, applicability, inactivation, responsibility, and who to
contact for assistance. The 4-hour, basic, NEPA training is an overview
of this federal act. The course covers NEPA requirements and how those
requirements affect the design, operation, and maintenance of
on-the-ground transportation projects, as well as how the requirements
affect engineers and contractors.
