Housed
within the Division of Transportation Development's (DTD) Multimodal
Planning Branch, the Planning Section is comprised of two units: The
Statewide Planning Unit and the MPO and Rural Liaison Unit. These units
are responsible for working extensively with the 15 Transportation
Planning Regions (TPRs), local elected officials and the public to
ensure that everyone has a voice in the statewide and regional planning
processes. The Statewide Planning Unit develops updates to Colorado's
Long-Range Transportation Plan and manages studies and research efforts
of statewide significance. The MPO and Rural Liaison Unit
coordinates planning efforts for Colorado's 15 TPRs. There are ten
rural TPRs and five urban TPRs, also called Metropolitan Planning
Organizations (MPOs). The Statewide Planning and MPO and Rural Liaison
Units work closely with the Government Relations
Office, Public Relations Office, Office of Financial
Management and Budget (OFMB), and the CDOT Engineering Regions.
