US 6 & Wadsworth Boulevard Environmental Assessment

What's New?
The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT), in partnership with the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), has completed the study of improvements to the US 6 (6th Avenue) and Wadsworth Boulevard interchange and to Wadsworth Boulevard between 4th and 14th Avenues. FHWA has reviewed the results of the study and on March 12, 2010 issued a decision approving the project for construction.

FHWA’s decision, documented in the US 6/Wadsworth Finding of No Significant Impact, can be reviewed electronically at Finding of No Significant Impact and Final Section 4(f) Evaluation. Public comments received on the Environmental Assessment are addressed in the signed decision document.

The publication of the Finding of No Significant Impact marks the end of the study. The next step in the project will be final engineering design, which typically takes 12 to 18 months to complete. CDOT does not currently have a construction schedule because of insufficient construction funds. Therefore, construction is likely to be delayed beyond initial projections or implemented in phases as funding becomes available. The US 6/ Wadsworth project remains a high priority for the region and the state, and CDOT continues to work to secure full funding.

US 6/Wadsworth Boulevard Study
CDOT published an Environmental Assessment (EA) to study the possible impacts from improvements to the US 6 and Wadsworth Boulevard interchange and to Wadsworth Boulevard between 4th and 14th Avenues. Click on the following link to view the electronic version of the Environmental Assessment, Draft Section 4(f) Evaluation, and supporting documents.

The Environmental Assessment was prepared in accordance with the requirements of the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) of 1969. The NEPA planning process requires agencies proposing federally-funded projects to integrate environmental considerations into the planning process, evaluate potential adverse and beneficial impacts of the proposed project, and provide mitigation measures to avoid or minimize adverse environmental impacts. Transportation projects typically involve a high level of public involvement and outreach. CDOT actively sought input from agencies, businesses, residents, and stakeholders along the Wadsworth Boulevard study area during the course of the study.
