US 138 & US 385 Timber Bridge Replacements

Existing BridgeProject Description

This project consists of replacing two timber bridges in northeastern Colorado: One on US 385 near Julesburg and the other on US 138 near Sterling. Both bridges will be replaced with concrete box culverts.

The US 385 bridge is located at mile marker (MM) 316.7 and spans the Peterson Canal. The US 138 bridge, located at MM 1.8 and spanning the Pioneer Ditch, was built in 1955. Many of Colorado's bridges are in disrepair and poor condition (more than 120 across the state), and by replacing these two bridges, we can create a safer and more efficient ride for motorists.

Project Timeline

This project began in November 2012 and is expected to last through March 2013. All work is weather dependent.

Existing Bridge

Construction Impacts

In mid-December a 4-day full closure on US 385 is needed to remove the existing bridge and set the new box culvert. Normal work hours will be from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday, with limited night and weekend work. Entries to homes and businesses will remain open, and temporary access points will be arranged during short periods when existing access points are being re-built.
