Overview
In mid-January 2009, the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) will begin a safety and mobility improvement project on Hampden Avenue (US 285) between Federal Boulevard and Kipling Street. The $40.1 million project will replace three structurally deficient bridges and reconstruct a portion of Hampden Avenue that is in poor condition. The project is scheduled to be complete in June 2011. Specifically, the project will replace the Wadsworth Boulevard, Pierce Street and Federal boulevard bridges. All three bridges were constructed before 1965, making them over 40 years old. In addition, the pavement between Federal Boulevard and Kipling Street is currently in poor condition with no remaining service life. This means that the base of the roadway has deteriorated and the only permanent fix is completely reconstruct the roadway. By replacing the bridges and reconstructing the roadway, CDOT is making significant improvements to Colorado's aging infrastructure while improving safety and mobility.
