Entry Level Career Path

It isn't always cut and dry when it comes to identifying "entry level" State jobs. An entry level position can be a position which requires a high school diploma or a position which is the first in a series. The following information will help you understand what positions may be considered "entry level" within CDOT.

Entry Level Entry Level Positions at CDOT:

  1. General Professional I - is a professional position which requires a bachelors degree or four years of professional level experience.  When hired at the level of a General Professional I, the expectation is that you will learn and progress to hold a General Professional II and then a General Professional III position.
  2. Engineering Physical Science Technician I (EPST I) - is an engineering position which requires a bachelors degree or four years of engineering work. The EPST I position is the first in a series of three positions:  EPST I, EPST II, and EPST III.
  3. Engineering Physical Science Assistant I (EPSA I) - is a labor position in the field of engineering. Entry into the position requires a GED and good aptitude for math.  The EPSA I position is the first in a series of three positions:  EPSA I, EPSA II, EPSA III.  Some employees are able to continue their career by promoting into the ESPT series.
  4. LTC Trainee V - is a position to prepare the individual to meet the minimum qualifications of a Transportation Maintenance Worker I position.
  5. Custodian - requires the individual to clean and maintain building interiors and furnishings.
  6. General Labor I - requires the individual to perform physical work involving hauling, lifting, moving and digging.
  7. Administrative Assistant II - is a support position which provides basic administrative support such as screening calls, taking messages, sorting mail, greeting customers.

Temporary Employment with CDOT

Occasionally, CDOT has a need to hire temporary employees. These appointments are not allowed to exceed 6 months. Temporary employees are typically hired into a Transportation Maintenance Worker I position for the winter season along the I-70 corridor.  If you are interested in a temporary position within CDOT you will need to check out our "Open Competitive job postings" frequently.
