What is all the fuss about?

Problem

No one likes ending a perfect mountain getaway locked up in sea of cars. Unfortunately, it happens nearly every weekend in the summer and winter at the same time of day . . . and on the same stretch of roadway. If you drive eastbound on I-70 between US 40/Empire Junction and the Twin Tunnels during the peak period, traffic slows to a crawl often resulting in more than a two-and-a-half hour delay - to travel just 8 miles! My name is Tony DeVito and I am the Region 1 Director for the Colorado Department of Transportation. My staff is working on the Peak Period Shoulder project which will provide an interim solution to this Sunday afternoon gridlock.
